Spring is fully underway and with it brings a fresh start for your closet and your key fashion trends. Before you start adopting this season’s must-have looks, don’t be afraid to clear out your closet, freeing up some valuable square meters.

A few trends from last season are staying put, while others, like the bomber jacket, are being upgraded for a new silhouette in the form of the loose fitting duster.

So, as you do your Spring clear out, store those much loved trends for their next time in the limelight and interject your remaining wardrobe with these hot-off-the-runway styles to easily pull together the most up-to-date looks in a flash.

Key Ready To Wear Pieces

The bomber is out and the duster is in. Switching out the short, sporty look of the bomber with a longer, more trench-like shape, the duster jacket finishes around mid calf and can be seen without closures or with a simple one button fastener. The duster jacket is a great alternative as it works for every body type and is utterly flattering. The perfect weight for Spring, it will keep the chill away without swamping you with warmth and the longer length is more versatile for a quick day to night switch.

Jump on the jumpsuit bandwagon. We saw them from Burberry in a beautiful navy with shoulder details, but a whole host of other designers were also featuring this easy-to-wear item, including Isabel Marant, Versace and even Belstaff.

What makes the jumpsuit so special this season? Its new utility design.

You don’t have to be a janitor or a blue-collar worker to make this masculine overalls look work for you. In fact, this is a great look for most body types and can easily be styled by simply adding a pop of color in the form of towering heels and obligatory spring sunglasses. Choose from wide leg, straight leg or even cropped to shorts length and own this androgynous look day or night.

While pinstripe is still a key look this spring, another print is fighting for competition and it comes in the form of, well anything actually. Yes, this Spring is the time to embrace random-object print including cactuses, avocados, lions and even hands.

While prints of everyday objects are lining the shelves, florals are few and far between, providing a refreshing break for Spring, which is often dominated by flowers.

The prints are available on everything from pants to shirts and socks, and look extra high fashion when paired with other less distracting prints and textures.

The power of the shoulder pad is well and truly back with a vengeance. Strong, bold shoulders, squared-off or accentuated with some serious shoulder pad action is the trend of the season for jackets and blazers. If you’re brave enough to channel your inner 80’s child, balance out the top heavy proportions with some skinny cigarette pants with a very 2017 side-racer stripe.

Key Accessories

Things are getting very millennial on the accessories front with fad trends arriving and passing almost weekly. This week it’s the turn of the clear lens glasses, which is great for those of you with twenty-twenty vision who normally are not able to join in with the glasses trends!

Whether completely clear or with a purple/green reflection, it’s certainly not something we would expect for Spring (where are all the sunglasses?), but the powers that be have decided it’s a goer and we have to say there’s something very intriguing about this trend. We particularly love the metal-framed version with a cat’s eye silhouette for a sultry look.

The shoe for Spring 17 is the mule. Another throwback, the mule is one of a long line of 90’s trends re-trending and never ending, including the choker, platforms and even embroidered denim. The mule is a much easier trend to pull off for all ages and has transcended new realms of possibilities including being mixed with loafers (backless loafers) and slingback styles.

Some of the best mules this season are created out of denim fabric, satin or even eastern style prints for a dynamic and super comfortable footwear look.

Finally, bags are doing opposite ends of the same spectrum this season, with minuscule, just-holds-a-lipstick kind of bags floating alongside oversized, I-carry-my-life-on-my-back versions. Basket bags are having a moment also with their rustic nature and good-life charm. However, it’s hard to imagine someone who could pull this trend off well, so perhaps they are best left on the runway!
