This week in Paris, revel in the city’s famous all-night art festival, toast to a Montmartre tradition, and marvel at the genius of Yves Saint Laurent.
Pull an Artsy All-Nighter
Mark your calendars, this Saturday is the return of Nuit Blanche, the French capital’s annual nighttime rendez-vous dedicated to contemporary creation. What sets the event apart is not only the late evening to early morning hours, but the shared experience of exploring Paris’ art scene with your fellow night owls. This year’s theme “Faire oeuvre commune” plays on that notion of togetherness by highlighting collective works, such as choreographer Olivier Dubois’ film-and-video-game inspired dance performance at Les Halles, which uses hundreds of amateur performers, or the giant, interactive word game created on the banks of the Seine by the German collective Invisible Playground. Artistic director Charlotte Laubard has created several parcours to help you navigate the evening, including one in the center of the city, one in the north, and one geared specifically towards families. In addition, for the first time, you can discuss your impressions online with Nemo the Chatbot, a program designed by students from the HEAD-Genève art school. And did we mention that it’s all entirely free? So get ready to party arty from dusk till dawn.

Raise a glass to Montmartre
Originally founded to celebrate the harvest of Paris’ oldest urban vineyard, the Fête des Vendages du Montmartre has grown to be a five-day festival celebrating the art, culture and – of course – wine of this picturesque hillside spot in the 18th arrondissement. This year’s festivities include an exhibit on Montmartre’s cinematic history, a Japanese calligraphy workshop, and an evening of wine and music from Portugal, invité d’honneur. And don’t miss the parade on Saturday, October 14th, featuring traditional dress, music, food and drink, with Manoulia, Queen of the Harvest, leading the way.
