City of Style

Fashionistas, it’s that time again – Paris Fashion Week is here! And don’t worry if you don’t have a ticket to any of the big shows – the city is packed with opportunities to see the best the fashion world has to offer.

For a glimpse of tomorrow’s trends, Paris’ most famous street, the Champs-Elysées, will be transformed into a giant catwalk for a free fashion show open to all on Oct 1, the “Day without my car”. Organized for the first time by L’Oréal Paris, the défilé will feature over 70 make-up and hair professionals and visits from the company’s most famous spokeswomen for an absolutely unmissable experience.

Back to Nature

If you prefer nature walks to catwalks, the first edition of “Open Gardens” is for you. Vegetable gardens, teaching gardens, and neighborhood gardens of all types and sizes are on display for a weekend mixing culture and horticulture. Check out the interactive WEBSITE for the tours, tastings, and workshops nearest you. Discover the secret to growing the ripest tomatoes, learn how to extract botanical oils, or take the kids on an insect-themed scavenger hunt. No need to have a green thumb to enjoy this celebration of Paris’ greenest spaces.

Paris College Day

Need some help planning your child’s future education? Many of your questions can be answered under one roof this weekend at Paris College Day. This free higher-education fair, organized by CIS, the non-profit Council of International Schools, with volunteer support provided by AAWE, has been dedicated for over 30 years to advising international families with teenagers preparing for their post-BAC (post-high school) education.

With nearly 100 secondary education institutions represented, it’s a must for long-term residents of France seeking beyond the BAC options for their bilingual kids. (If you have a child in their final two years of French lycée, or high school, this event can help with orientation.) French students with a high level of English language skills are also welcome to find out more about the many options for programs in English around Europe, the UK and the USA.

When: Sunday, October 1, 2017, 1:30pm-4:30pm, see WEBSITE for details and registration
Where: Paris Marriott Rive Gauche Hotel & Conference Center, 17 Blvd Saint-Jacques, 75014 Paris

Before you go…mark your calendars and stock up on your sleep because Nuit Blanche is around the corner. Come back next week for our top picks of things to see and do during this all-night extravaganza on Saturday, October 7 celebrating the best in contemporary creation!
