The Magic of Dior

Fashionistas flock to Paris this time of year, vying for spots at the coveted couture shows of Fashion Week. But even if you don’t have front row seats, you can still experience a spectacular fashion event at the opening of “Christian Dior, Dream Couturier”, the largest exhibit of its kind ever at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. The exhibit traces 70 years of the fashion house’s achievements, honoring the life and art Monsieur Dior himself as well as the designers who succeeded him, including: Yves Saint Laurent, John Galliano and the current Artistic Director, Maria Grazia Chiuri. 300 of Dior’s most famous gowns, worn by his most renowned clients, will be on display alongside a replica of a real couture atelier. This is a must-see opportunity to be transported by the beauty and fantasy of Dior’s work through the decades.

When : July 5, 2017 – Jan 7, 2018. See WEBSITE for details.
Where : Musée des Arts décoratifs, 107 rue de Rivoli, 75001 Paris

Music for all

Get ready to groove! The summer music festival season is fully under way! This weekend, catch some of the hottest names in rock, like Julien Doré and Fishbach, at the totally free FNAC Live festival in front of the Hôtel de Ville.

If you prefer something more intimate, check out the Siestes Electroniques, a paean to cultural diversity, nomadism and slowness at the Musée de Quai Branly. A dozen musicians with access to the museum’s audio collection (including everything from Yiddish songs to Inuit vocalizing) invite you to share in their personalized soundscapes.

Kids have a music festival all to themselves, with the Pestacles at the Parc Floral. Over a dozen children’s performers will delight youngsters with everything from Mozart to reggae, pop to hip hop. There’s even a special concert for bilingual children on July 12 with Dana & the Petits Punks. Workshops in the park every Wednesday allow budding fans to meet the musicians up close and personal. That’s music to everyone’s ears!
